As a General Dental Practitioner you will have patients to refer for orthodontic treatment. They will either be NHS or private referrals. Adults are unlikely to qualify for NHS orthodontic treatment unless there are severe problems, these are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Patients who have discussed orthodontics treatment with their General Dental Practitioner can also self refer to us.
For NHS treatment you must be under 18 years of age and have a clinical need for treatment. The NHS has clear criteria relating to eligibility for treatment. All patients under 18 years old in grade four or five are eligible. Case by case consideration is given to grade three.
